The next BOE meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 14, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Neil Van Riper Administration Building.  All members are encouraged to attend.  

Meetings:

Spring General Membership Meeting Scheduled:

The regular Spring General Membership meeting, has been scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the UAW hall on Van Born Rd in Woodhaven at 4:00 p.m.  Please contact your building rep for more information.

Regular RC Meeting:

The combined EC/RC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2008,  at 4:00 p.m.  at Arthurs Middle School.  If you want to add agenda items please contact Vince Preuthun at Taylor Elementary School, or via email at least 5 work days prior to the meeting.  All TEA members are invited to attend the RC meetings.  Public participation time is set aside and we welcome your input.

MEA Region 2 Meeting:

The Region 2 meeting of the MEA will be held at the Fellows Creek Golf Club, 2936 Lotz Rd., Canton, MI.  For more information call  (313) 381-5100.

The MEA has awarded a scholarship to THS student

The MEA has awarded a $1500 scholarship to THS senior, Benjamin Topping.  Congratulations Ben.

Sick Bank request procedures finalized

The Sick Bank committee has finalized the Sick Bank procedures. The complete procedures are available as a download at this link: Sick Bank Procedures.  The application form for the sick bank needs to be submitted to Sue Yee and the form is available at this link: Sick Bank Request Form. These documents are in Adobe Acrobat format. RTF format files are available here: Procedures      Request.  

The Sick Bank is an unique Union benefit where all union members donate sick days to allow union members with illnesses that require them to be off work beyond their own accumulated sick time to draw on this resource to maintain their income during their illness.  All uses of the Sick Bank require a timely application form, and documentation from a physician.  Applications can be obtained from your Association Representative or from the link above.  Consult with your Association Rep if you feel you need days from the Sick Bank.

New start times for High school and Middle School
Be at work Promptly (revised)!

Among the provisions of the new Professional Agreement with the school district is a revision of the school start times.  Please note the additions below.

The TEA wishes to remind all teachers that promptness is a virtue.  Review page 28 of your contract for teacher starting and ending times.

Article XVIII

Teaching Hours and Assignments 

A. The regularly scheduled arrival and dismissal times for teachers of the Trenton Public  Shall be as follows:

Elementary 8:20 a.m. 8:35 a.m. 3:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m.
Middle School 06-07: 7:40 a.m. 07-08: 7:55 a.m. 06-07: 7:55 a.m. 07-08: 8:10 a.m. 06-07: 2:45 p.m. 07-08: 3:00 p.m.  06-07: 3:15 p.m. 07-08: 3:30 p.m.
High School 06-07: 7:30 a.m. 07-08: 7:15 a.m. 06-07: 7:45 a.m. 07-08: 7:30 a.m. 06-07: 2:45 p.m. 07-08: 2:30 p.m. 06-07: 3:15 p.m. 07-08: 3:00 p.m.

C. Teachers will be free to leave the building ten minutes after students' dismissal time, provided there is no conflict with parent conferences or teachers' meetings.

Laid off members recalled

As of the beginning of this school year, all but two laid off members have been recalled.  

Union Documents to be e-mailed.

In an effort to decrease printing and distribution costs, union documents will be emailed to the extent possible.  Please check your email for important union documents.  Members are urged to establish an email address that does not use the school district's email system.  Free email accounts are available from Yahoo, Google, and Hot Mail.  Please remember that email accounts are not secure and private.  Anything sent via email is open to examination by any computer that it passes through on its way to its destination.  Email is not considered "private" by the courts and can be opened without warrant.  Never send any private information via email.
